10 Surefire Ways to Quit Smoking

As you probably already know, smoking is associated with health problems such as lung cancer, cardiovascular diseases, gum diseases, high blood pressure, infertility, weak bones and joints, depression, snoring and bad breath. Moreover, smoking also affects the non-smokers around you. So, how can we quit smoking for good!?!

If that doesn’t convince you to quit smoking, then consider quitting just for the video below. 😀

A lot of people wish to quit smoking but they don’t manage due to addictive effect of nicotine. In the following we will show you the best 10 tips that can really help you quit smoking:

1. Make the right preparations

Why do you want to stop smoking? Write down all your reasons and constantly remind yourself your mission.  Set a specific date to stop smoking and stick to it. It would also be a good idea to plan your actions. Do you smoke heavily at work? Stop smoking during your vacation.

2. Eliminate the use of cigarettes

Think about why you started smoking in the first place. Was it to calm yourself and relieve stress? You’ll need to find something else to replace smoking and still be able to obtain those effects. You can try exercising, running, self-massages or some other relaxation techniques, try to replace your old habits with new ones.

Did you start smoking because everyone else around you was doing it? Ask them to stop smoking around you.

3. Start slow

Slowly cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke daily. Smoke only half of cigarette or smoke only on odd hours of the day. If you feel like having a smoke, wait it out for another hour. Tell yourself you’ll only smoke a certain number of cigarettes per day. Get sloppy when buying your next pack of cigarettes. When you feel comfortable about dedicating yourself to quit smoking completely, take the big step and never look back.

4. Don’t do it by yourself

Talk to your friends and family about quitting smoking. Their support will motivate you to succeed. You can also join online forums and meet people who go through the same experience as you.

5. Make smoking a very, very bad experience

Switch brands to something you find awful. Make every cigarette you put in your mouth a torment on your soul. Yes, sado-masochism does have its uses.

6. Try some anti-smoking products

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms can be really bad. The urge to take just one puff can be unbearable. If you are willing to spend some cash on this you can also try some of the following products.

Nicotine replacement products such as patches, nicotine gum or lozenges are said to double the caches of success. Just don’t use them while smoking.

Another product which is said to have very good results is the electric cigarette. Such products are battery powered devices meant to imitate real cigars. They do have some levels of nicotine in them, but there is no smoke or tobacco involved.

And think about it this way, after investing some money into your quitting plan, you’ll feel more reluctant to fall back into smoking.

7. Exercise, exercise, exercise

Burning some calories can get you a long way. Exercises can calm you and reduce the craving for nicotine. It can also help you reduce the weight gain caused in some cases by smoke quitting process.

8. Eat Fruits and Veggies

Submit yourself to a healthy diet. Eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. Bananas, oranges, grapefruits, apples, broccoli will all make cigarettes taste terrible.

9. Reward yourself

The first two days are the most difficult. Reward yourself from day one! Buy a little something for yourself. Do the same in second and third day. After a week… throw a party! You should celebrate. After all, you are half way there.

10. If you stumble, restart!

It’s very common to fail. It’s not the end of the world if you couldn’t do it for the first time. Just try again, and again, and again. Learn from your mistakes, don’t give up and you will eventually make it to a smoke free life.

Any other tips you would like to share with us to help others stop smoking? We would love to hear from you.

If all other smoking cessation aids fail, maybe you should consider seeking help at a substance abuse treatment facility instead.

It’s cliche but you have to replace the habit with a new habit because smoking takes energy and you have to put it somewhere. I’m a little biased but I would recommend running. If you’ve never had a running program before it can be a little intimidating. Ease into a little and get some basic runs under your belt. Then as you build confidence, start adding more specific types of workouts, 1 customized workout a week to start is enough. From there you can build to 2 and eventually 3 customized workouts a week. Enjoy the process!

I think all this information is useful and can be of benefit to anyone who wants to stop smoking.

For me, smoking was both habit and routine. I ended up trying just about everything on the list, but what got me to finally stop was when I created a new daily routine and moved away from as many moments or events as possible where I was programmed to want to smoke.

    Something else to consider anyway

As a teenager I started smoking to be one of the “cool guys”. It neither got me girls or fame and it did not make me cool. Looking back this one of the dumbest things I ever did.

It takes a lot of will power to stop smoking for good. Exercise and avoiding the typical situation where one would smoke helped me to overcome smoking.

My dad likes to hang out with friends in a local bar at least an hour after work. This helps him relax from his stressful day. For as long as I can remember he does that from Monday til Friday. Six months ago he was diagnosed with lung cancer. Doctor said he must have acquired it from smoking. He never smoked in his life but his peers at the bar were heavy smokers. Now he has to bear chemotherapy from somelse’s bad habit.

I believe smokers have no conscience. They are just as self centered like those addicted to drugs. I cannot comprehend why these people only think for themselves. It would be fair if they will be the only ones affected and not the entire human race.

It’s very hard to stop smoking but it’s easy to let someone stop smoking by making a drama. Let someone ask the smoker to have a check up to doctors clinic, make a doctor tell him that his days are number if he will quit smoking..

Quitting smoking can be one of the biggest challenges in life. The most important factor in being successful in quitting is the determination and decision to be a nonsmoker.

The tools or methods you use to quit smoking are less important. Many will work if you are committed to quitting.

Have you ever thought about adding a little bit more than
just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and
all. However think about if you added some great photos or video clips to give
your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this website
could undeniably be one of the most beneficial in its field.

    Superb blog!
